Table-ronde: Le designer, auteur avant tout

Saturday May 2

19:00—21:00

FOIL Gallery

At a time when production is becoming standardized and digitalized, an opposite movement is emerging: a return to craftsmanship, raw materials, and deliberate gestures. Art and design no longer merely dialogue, they merge. From Montréal to New York, designers assert an authorial stance. They produce in small series, collaborate with artisans, form collectives, and intentionnally blur disciplinary boundaries.

This discussion will bring together five Montréal-based designers and studios whose practice lies at the intersection of art and design. Together, they will reflect on fabrication methods, creative independence, and new models of practice that are redefining the role of the designer today.

Speakers Juliette et Sharlène (smallmediumlarge), Nicholas Sangaré (Sangaré), Flor Taillefer et Jeremy St-Onge (Verre d’Onge), Jeremy LeChâtelier (Le Châtelier), Jérémie St-Onge (Verre d’Onge), Marion Selma Gamba et Julien Peltier (ADeumain Studio), Zachary Bleau Prevost (Igor Zigor). Animation by par Rebecca Murdock.

This initiative was selected as part of the call for participation issued by the Bureau de design de la ville de Montréal.
